The series continues with Philharmonic musicians joining vocalists in World Premieres by Joan La Barbara, Nicole Lizée, and Paola Prestini — commissioned by the Philharmonic as part of Project 19 — alongside works by Crumb and Berio in a concert hosted and curated by Nadia Sirota, Creative Partner. The Appel Room, Jazz at Lincoln Center Broadway at 60th Street • Monday, February 10, 2020, 7:30 p.m. Brahms, Strauss, and Tania León Janine Jansen is the brilliant soloist in Brahms’s Violin Concerto, a work of nearly symphonic proportions and technical fireworks in the last movement. Maestro van Zweden conducts ravishing melodies and seductive waltzes in Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier, which transports you to Vienna’s Golden Age. This concert, featuring Tania León’s commissioned work, continues Project 19. Jaap van Zweden also leads Bruckner’s epic Fourth Symphony, with its stately pace, noble horn calls, and blazing climaxes — a grand night for the Philharmonic’s stellar brass section!
